Carb Beacon privacy policy
Last updated: 1 August 2026
What Carb Beacon handles
Carb Beacon does not require an account and does not include advertising, analytics or tracking. Recent food results are stored only in your browser on your device. You can delete them from the app at any time.
Nutrition-label photos
When you choose the AI label reader, the selected photo is sent through AppForge Digital's Netlify-hosted service to OpenAI for analysis. The app asks the service not to store the AI response and Carb Beacon does not save the photo to its own database. A one-way fingerprint of the prepared image, together with extracted nutrition values, may be cached so an identical label can be reused without another AI charge. Do not include people, prescriptions, glucose readings or other personal information in label photos.
Barcode lookups
A scanned or typed barcode is sent to Open Food Facts to look up product nutrition data. Open Food Facts is an independent, community-maintained service. Carb Beacon does not send your name, glucose values or insulin settings with a barcode lookup.
Health information
Carb Beacon does not include an insulin dose-maths calculator in this release, so no glucose, insulin or dosing data is collected or stored.
Subscriptions
The browser trial displays planned Free and Plus limits but does not process payments. In a published mobile app, purchases and subscription entitlements will be handled by Apple or Google through their approved billing systems. This policy will be updated before paid subscriptions are enabled.
Sharing and contact
AppForge Digital does not sell or share user data for advertising. Data is sent to the services described above only when you deliberately use the relevant scan feature.
